Orientation in the books!

This past weekend has been a whirlwind of new faces, helping wherever it was needed, and marveling that it wasn't that long ago that I was on the other side of it. I am glad that students were here because it was just a little too quiet for my liking and so I present a quick recap of work since Thursday.  Thursday was move in day so I helped with parking at 7am. Friday we had our first shabbat dinner and services. It was definitely chaotic since we flipped them and had dinner in the dining hall.  Saturday we had a song session with babka and rugelach before Havdalah. Yesterday we hosted a frozen yogurt bar and hang out.  Now today, I am headed in late as I am helping launch the engagement internship tonight! Best wishes for the week ahead,  me

Second week in the books

Two weeks in! It is definitely weird how quiet and empty the building is but I am more settled into my office and have successfully navigate the building 4/5 times! There are still some little edits that will happen on going, like adding some more lights and leveling some pieces of art! But I am much more of the mindset of this is my space when I see it then when I first saw it two weeks ago.  First years arrive on Thursday so outside of some onboarding tasks, I have been settling in and doing student outreach and connecting with partner offices.  Outside of work, I have been reading a fair amount, connecting with friends from school and exploring. Last weekend, I caught the tail end of the music festival, explored around the Steel Stacks, and stumbled into the National Museum of Industrial history .  This weekend, I went to a local park and explored around there and down town Bethlehem. I was hoping to end up at the local plant store but they are on vacation right now, s...

Wrapping Up the First Week

So following the first day post, I did in fact have a second day! and even a third and fourth and fifth! The second day we were still at the retreat but there was less team building and more lectures and discussions around the divisions strategic initiatives (and their wording) as well as how to support students  in their own self authorship. I did miss some of that discussion as I joined the other fellows on a mental health training debrief. It was overall a good discussion but a little rough around the edges as their were some very strong feelings.  Wednesday was my first day in the building and my office, wow I still can't wrap my head around that! After a building tour I was welcomed with some goodies featuring snacks and muhlenberg hillel t-shirts. I will share some photos of my office once it is decorated and feels a bit less like an office you might get in trouble in.  Thursday I went on a campus tour, had lunch in the dining hall, and met with the dean of ad...

First Day

Image
Hi There! So today was my first day of work and it was day 1 of the Department of Student Affairs retreat. This took places at a local vineyard which is about 6 minutes from my apartment (this is the shortest commute I will have during my time here).   The general theme was  a little .... 🐙🦑🦐🦞🦀🐡🐠🐟🐳🐋🦈 Fishy and general summer time; but mainly fish as my name tag says we are here for a REEL good time! Theme aside, the general vibe was a mix of summer camp meets professionals. We did so so many team building activities and I got to meet so many people but now as I am writing this a lot of the faces blend together. But I know that this will all come in time.  For now, enjoy the selfies from today featuring the beaching outfit of day one,  me

Since May

Image
Hi there! How are you? Oh my goodness, I know its been forever. Let's catch up! Since May, I have been busy reading books, watching Netflix, pretending to adult, actually adulting, house sitting, packing, attending a conference, and last but certainly not least moving to Pennsylvania! More important than all the "-ings," was just taking time to relax and hang out with friends. Nicole and I went to a lot of brunches and a Bonsai Bar experience and took a few trips. The first was to Skidmore and then Burlington VT to visit some school friends before heading down to the Cape to help out at my camp for a few days as they got ready for campers. After that it was back to the "-ings" before heading to St. Louis for my first professional conference. I had a really great time, learned a lot, and more importantly in the eyes of the program made some new friends and lots of connections.  and after St. Louis, I moved to Bethlehem PA and tomorrow I start my first real day o...
