Happy Halloween

Today I got up and put on my spooky tights (they are roses and bones) and got a tone of compliments! I did some homework after breakfast and then headed out to Brick lane for an Etap. It was a really fun trip and our tour guide, Steve, was hysterical. Also a bunch of people dressed up like Cali and that was a hoot and a half. Fun fact there was this guy who had made his fortune in selling spirits but then saw a bunch of abandoned children and was like oh god I am an awful person-so he gave up the business and started a rehab facility.  After that trip ended I backtracked to the first real bagel shop in London. I got a cream cheese bagel and loved it. It kind of had the consistency of challah but still really good. Then I got on a train and headed to South Kensington to go to the V&A for AA.  I was a little concerned that I was in the wrong place but then I saw Ayesha and Elizabeth and then a minute later Lucinda showed up. The V&A is really big and a couple o...

Flu Shot more like Flu Jab

In the UK, flu shots are not a thing so instead you get your winter flu jab. I got mine today. My arm is a little sore but that is fine. In imagined I learned a lot of new words including heterotemporality, eschatological, diachronic, and synchronic. What was s fun is she was like sorry for all of these new words but we need them to discuss Mrs. Dalloway.  I think I may hate this book which is sad because I still have 2 more weeks and paper with it. In theater we had a presentation, which was not done well and it made the class feel quite long. After class Elizabeth and I went to Five guys and got milkshakes then bought our tickets for the Tea bus we are going on SUNDAY!! I then had some mashed potatoes and did my imagined reading

Monday

To day was a fairly typical day nothing super special happen. I went food shopping after class. the sad thing is that it is pitch black here around 5 pm which will be an adjustment. I did homework and made dinner. My stomach is a little off right now so I am going to bed soon. Have a great rest of your day!

straightened sunday

So I forgot to post yesterday but I didn't do much. I did some homework and got a couple of long term projects underway. I finished rereading Eleanor and Park and more intriguing is I straightened my hair. I will post pictures later but it was more spur of the moment. This morning I went to senate house library because I thought that I had late fees but I didn't WOOT WOOT. Now I am at IES and have class in 20 minutes. More to come tonight Me

What did you miss

So I never posted what I did yesterday so here we go. On Friday, I woke up and made breakfast. Then Lily and I went for a walk and went to the Sir John Soane Museum. It was the oddest collection, that I have seen in a museum in London. It was so cool! Then we went to the foundling museum but didn't go in because we had to pay. Then we took a meandering way back to Chapter. We then stopped for Lunch and came back. Then later I wanted to for a walk so I went for an hour walk along the canal. That is pretty much all I did because I went to bed early after reading a book. Today I got up and re made my plan for the day. I went to the Tate Modern and saw the Clock exhibit. It was really interesting because we discussed it in imagined. There is very interesting social view of it because there are very few women and people of different ethnicities. I then wandered up and down the south bank and ended up at the Battersea Arts Center, which is a neat building. I then came back to chapter...

The Jungle

So yesterday, I had imagined and theater. I found both quite interesting yesterday but what I really want to discuss is The Jungle . This play was incredible and I will forever recommend I, unfortunately it closes on November 3rd, but I hope it goes on tour. The stage has been deconstructed and proscenium arch is hidden and together there is a sense of being in a tent with a restaurant inside. For more money you can sit in the restaurant but we were up in the dress circle. All of the acting was incredible and I almost lost it when the narrator finally goes. Wait I never explained the plot (sorry). The jungle is a refugee camp in Calais France. In this camp there are refugees from around the world and they tell there stories, struggle to get along and eventually stand united against the French who want to bulldoze the camp. Then to make the point about young children being abandoned they have this little girl, Amal, and she kind of dances around and then bonds with a couple of the Bri...

The one with Janet Casey

SO today I slept for 9+ hours and it was fan fricken tactic. I felt so good after getting that much sleep but a little disoriented because I woke up around midnight and couldn't sleep for an hour. I then showered and got dressed. Etap today was a little boring but oh well. Janet Casey, the FYE director, was there but more about her later. We talked about literature which was kind of interesting but he made the conversation way deeper than I think it actually is. Then at lunch today I just chilled with some folks in the student lounge before heading over to the tube station to meet my AA class. Today we went to the William Morris Gallery, which was so cool. I loved it so much and bonus it was interactive -Yeet! William Morris was a jack of all trades and he made so much unique art from wall paper to tapestry to furniture and even sculptures. It was nice because I have really common interests with Lucinda in regards to art so I got to spend more one on one time with her. Th...

Today ends at 4:50

As you may remember I used to have understanding Britain on Tuesdays but that ended before the break so my theater class and my day ended at 4:50. In Imagined today we had a guest speaker. Her name was Judith Flanders and she graduated from Skidmore. It was a very interesting because it discussed how in any moment you can see multiple centuries. I really enjoyed it and wished we got to hang out with her more. then I had lunch in the student lounge with a bunch of kids. Our discussions ranged quite a bit but none of the topics lasted long because a lot of people were very stressed. Now the stress is gone because all of our remaining midterms are done. In theater today we discussed the financial standings of shows and whether or not the government should support the arts with tax money. I then walked back with Lily and Aeyesha. It was a nice walk and then I came back and worked out. Also today I bought a 5 year one line a day diary! and a book with the proper names of animals w...

26 hours in the country, Sunday and now Monday

SO sorry that it has been a couple of days, so let's play catch up 26 hours in Kilborn On Friday, I took a train out to Derby to see my camp friend Puck. She picked me up from the train station and we then and dropped off her girlfriend and got some Chinese food. Here Chinese is sold with chips. We ate and watched the greatest showman. The next day we had a full English breakfast with her girlfriend. We then went and saw their town square which was really cute. we then came back and drove her brother to work before heading to Matlock, which is a seaside town but not seaside. We went to this aquarium and hologram museum which was pretty cool but also quite odd. We then got some freak shakes which are giant milkshakes with a donut and ice-cream on top. WE then headed back and stopped at a nearby garden. The gardens connected to an old mill which we went on a tour of. it was cool and there was a lot of American connections. After that we were all exhausted so we went back to her...

Less Busy

Yesterday I got up and worked on some papers and then around 11 decided to make up my mind for the day. I had a kind bar and hit the road. I went to the Barbican, Postman's Park, and Postal museum The Barbican is a really unique building because it has plants overall the windows. The Postman's Park is much smaller than many parks that I have been to but that there are some titles that describe heroic events live saving children from a fire. Finally the Postal museum was incredible. I didn't think that I would enjoy it nearly as much as I did. Also at the museum, you can ride the mail rail, which is the old mail cart which would run under the city. Overall I had a great time and I was able to walk most of these so I saw many new parts of the city. Today I leave for Derby today to visit a camp friend. Don't expect any more posts until Sunday Morning. Have a Great Weekend!

Half Lazy, Have Busy

Image
So This morning I accidentally got up quite early, so naturally I watched the  The Breakfast Club  in bed. I then ate and did some work and laundry. Then around 12 I decided it was time to be done sitting in my room. So I consulted the Time Out 50  and my own internal list. Here is a map of everywhere I went and now the details Liberty This is in the top 50 but also somewhere I love.  It is a department store that is full of a variety of things from haberdashery to fabrics to furniture. It is quite expensive so I didn't buy anything today but who know someday.  A small vintage store  I didn't get its name but it felt so costume-y. I had a blast looking about but everything was very overpriced so I may go back but if not there are many more shops. Photographer's Gallery Top 50  This was a neat museum. The pictures told such a story of travel and technology.  The French House  Top 50 I didn't make it in because they were ...

Trip Recap

Image
So this trip was incredible! I loved it and Italy and I had so many unique experiences. This may be semi stream of consciousness but it is because of everything I want to say.  Florence is prettier than Rome but Rome has more to do than Florence. This makes sense as Rome is kind of the Disney world of Italy. However both cities feel more aesthetically together than London. From building to building there is some cohesion but in London that is missing. There was a huge range in peoples' ability to speak English. Some cases people were entirely fluent and others could generally comprehend what I was trying to communicate whereas some had no English at all. Ok the moment you have all been waiting ever so patiently for.... PHOTO TIME Number 1 is my ticket and train to Gatwick airport This Next series are pictures from my Hostel. It was incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone in Rome! Ercolano ROMAN FORUM AND COLOSSEUM OTHER ROME PICTURES and Vatican Muse...
