SY 351: Midterms of Senior Year

It is weird to be a senior. It comes with the sense of this is my place (aka the cool kid vibe) as well as how do I want to leave this place for those I care about and for the next generation- the future me's who have a hard time saying no and end up with all of the leadership roles on campus.

This semester I am once again in many courses but my credit load is not wildly unreasonable - so I guess that we might consider that a win! The bigger win is that Skidmore is back to entirely in person!
  • Latin is fun we are a small group and although it is definitively work, I am in a place where it is a bit lighter and I am in a place to have fun with the language.
  • Capstone meeting is a bit overwhelming as we lay the groundwork for the spring semester. It is going to be a very cool project but that is a tale for another post
  • Senior Seminar, well classics major and beyond, is designed to help majors think about the future and develop useful skills like how to write a resume and cover letter, interview for a job, and talk about ourselves (yikes!)
  • Elementary Sanskrit is fun until it is overwhelming but the professor is incredibly kind and incredibly patient!
  • Emotions in Antiquity, a course I wasn't overjoyed to be in but is by far one of my favorites. Each class we discuss a different emotion and draw connections from antiquity to modernity.
  • Artist Interview is a cool course, in pairs we each interview an artist and ultimately write a reflection and transcript about it. I interviewed Lauren Kelley, it was so cool and she just opened an exhibition at the Tang!

Besides classes, I am kept busy with work both on and off campus as well as other leadership roles.
  • Old Navy - is what it sounds like a minimum wage retail job, but I enjoy my coworkers and it is not a job that I think about when I am not there. ... well until my manager texts me asking if I can come in.
  • Student Supervisor for the meditation and mindfulness program, this is a promotion, which is really cool but also a bit sad as the promotion came from my boss leaving Skidmore for a new adventure. We still text but it is weird to think about because her and this program had such an impact on who I am today and my own practice with mindfulness.
  • London FYE Peer Mentor - Just as I was in the program my freshman year, now I get to give back to it by serving as a peer mentor. I have my first zoom meeting with them on Tuesday which is quite exciting and I am cautiously optimistic as I know they have had a rough semester.
  • Student assistant to the coordinator of Jewish Student life. This job is a lot of technology work and data entry but it has been cool to learn about this alternative side of engaging students.
  • I am officially a student provider for the EMS agency on campus! In fact, I am writing this post while on call.
  • Senior Director of Programs in Hillel. This is a bittersweet role for me because I am training the next generation of leaders, which is so cool but makes me nostalgic for the easy times and for the memories of eating dinner in pjs or in weird places.
  • Co-consul of Classics Club, a new club that a friend and I founded on campus. It has been fun if not slightly chaotic as we havent had a budget at all yet but in theory very soon!
  • Lastly, well I think, Vice-chair of the Senior Gift Committee. This has been a very cool experience so far as I don't know much about fundraising on a non-profit side. There are so many rules on how to get gifts but I am learning so much!

What else, what else ....
Oh! I once again got to participate in the Tang's roommate program but more on that later here are a couple of teaser photos.

I am sure there are more things but I am choosing to call it quits, as it is 11:46 pm on Saturday November 6th and I am tired and need to go see if the walk held its charge.

All of my best wishes for the week a head and I hope you enjoy the extra hour of sleep!

  1. Gma and I are also seniors but we don't brag about it. Your schedule would be considered light if it was spread over four semesters. Good luck, Livvie. We love you.
