London for 48+ Hours

So I have been in London for +/- 48 hours. It has been a great time and it has definitely confirmed to me that I have made the right choice. As you read on I will note generally my experiences from these past hours.
DAY 1

  • We landed at around 9 on Thursday.
  • We then went through immigration and waited for everyone else by the baggage claim. I was one of the first ones through, which was awesome because I got to sit down-it was so tiring.
  • It then took us 1 hour to get to the apartment and we all sat on couches so that they could check us in. About halfway through the check in process one of the IES staff members came with food( thank god). After we checked in, we had about an hour and a half in the dorm to settle in and un pack.
  • At 3:30 I had my housing orientation and it basically recovered all the information we learned at Skidmore.

  • At 4 we went on a brief tour of Angel, the neighboring community, then Morgan and I walked to Primark, a clothing/home goods store- imagine Old Navy and Home goods combined but buzzier, I bought hangers and then we walked back. This was a 4 mile trip but it was so good to get some movement.
  • I then walked to boots to by Shampoo, Conditioner, and toothpaste. Then I went to Tesco's to get some food for breakfast and dinner (Thanks Aunt Mel!).
  • Then I showered and went to bed around 10pm.
DAY 2
  • I woke up around 7:45 and got dressed. Next I went to our kitchen to make some breakfast-nothing fancy just cereal and an apple.
  • We then walked as a group to orientation, where we were joined by Southern University of Texas. The orientation was mainly long and boring except for this cop, who came to talk with us about safety. There are 3 main types of robbery-the dippers, the sliders and the hug-a-muggers- in case you were curious.
  • We then had light sandwiches and went on a walk around a park to get fresh air. When we got back in we had a "quiz" to see if we retained any of the information we had learned this passed week. My group did pretty well and we are hoping that we win the pizza vouchers but the jury is still out.

  • Next we walked to IES, Institute of International Education of Students, and had our first meeting of our seminar professors. I am doing the "word" seminar, as it is now called, and we spent our time doing an icebreaker and getting photocopies of some of our reading.
  • After that I went to a store to purchase school supplies- most of my peers were like I don't want to spend money and left, but I figured I will feel better once I have them and bought quite a lot of stuff. After I finished it started to downpour and so I hopped on a bus. However, it turns out the bus was going the wrong way.... so I hopped off and wandered around for 20 minutes before I was too cold and decided to try again. I successfully made it to King's Cross and then walked up to the apartment.
  • I am here now typing this and I don't know what I will do tonight, but I will let you know when  I do.
